Read the Manual

The first step in learning how to ride a PWC is to read the user manual. While the following tips can be applied to any PWC, the user manual will provide you with important instructions on how to operate and maintain your specific model.

Learn the Controls

Before you fire up your PWC for the first time, you should become familiar with the controls and how they work. This includes the throttle, steering controls, and safety features such as shut-off lanyards and emergency stops. Make sure that everyone who will be riding your PWC is aware of where these controls are located and what they do.

Break It In

When you first take your PWC out on the water, you should be sure to run it at a slower speed for the first few hours of use. This will give the engine and other components time to "break in" and ensure that everything functions properly.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

Try to practice riding your PWC when the lake isn't too crowded with other vessels. The early morning hours are usually a safe bet. Start with low-speed maneuvers that involve making turns and accelerating in different directions.

Once you feel comfortable, you can try higher speeds and more complicated maneuvers. Just remember to practice caution at all times, especially when other vessels are in the area.
